Job Summary:
The Veterinary Technology Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality educational content and instruction in the field of veterinary medicine, specifically focusing on veterinary nursing and technology. This role requires a strong background in veterinary medicine and a passion for teaching and mentoring students. The instructor will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of veterinary professionals by providing comprehensive instruction, facilitating practical training, and promoting a positive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and deliver comprehensive lesson plans and instructional materials in veterinary nursing and technology, in accordance with established curriculum guidelines.
2. Conduct engaging lectures, discussions, and demonstrations to ensure students gain a thorough understanding of theoretical concepts and practical techniques.
3. Provide hands-on training and supervision to students during laboratory sessions, clinical rotations, and other practical learning activities.
4. Assess and evaluate student performance through assignments, examinations, practical assessments, and other relevant assessment methods.
5. Offer constructive feedback to students to enhance their understanding and skill development in veterinary nursing and technology.
6. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other academic-related information.
7. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and update curriculum materials to ensure alignment with industry standards and emerging trends in veterinary medicine.
8. Stay updated on advancements in veterinary nursing and technology through continuous professional development activities and industry networking.
9. Assist in organizing and coordinating student internships, externships, and other experiential learning opportunities.
10. Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment, promoting student engagement, cooperation, and respect for diversity.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
2. Current and active licensure or certification as a Veterinary Technologist (LVT, RVT, CVT) or Veterinarian (DVM) in the relevant jurisdiction.
3. Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in veterinary medicine, with a focus on veterinary nursing and technology.
4. Strong knowledge and expertise in veterinary nursing techniques, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, surgical assistance, anesthesia, radiology, and other related areas.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey complex concepts and interact with students, colleagues, and industry professionals.
6. Proven ability to adapt teaching methodologies to accommodate diverse learning styles and promote student engagement.
7. Demonstrated ability to provide constructive feedback and support to students, fostering their professional growth and development.
8. Proficiency in using technology and educational tools to enhance instruction and facilitate online learning when required.
9. Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively plan and deliver instructional content within designated timeframes.
